NIGER DELTA – RIPE AND READY FOR FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT
Around the Niger Delta, Fishcareplus has endeavored to promote environmentally sustainable aquaculture practice. In the past 5 years, we have taught people to farm fish in order to shift their attention away from inland fisheries in the Nigerian water ways in view of the high level of species extinction now taking place. Some Governments and government parastatals as well as other NGOs have seen our work and have partnered with us in the construction of fish farms, training of prospective fish farmers and fisher folks, Some companies have contracted us to construct fish farms and feed production centres within the region. Examples are: The Bayelsa State Ministry of Agriculture who in 2003 participated in our Fisheries Resources and Ecological Education Program held at Nedugo Agbia, Yenagoa. Okobo Local Government In the Youth in Agriculture Training programme Urue Ita, Okobo LGA, Akwa Ibom State, 2005. This project earned that Local Government a national award as the Best Local Govenmnent in Agriculture in 2005. Living Earth (Nigeria) Foundation partnered with us in the training of 113 fish farmers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state We are currently running fish farms for very prominent Nigerians who don’t want their names on the internet.
FISH FARMING IN ANY PART OF THE NIGER DELTA? There was a time in the Niger Delta when fish farming was a pass time. Only those who had time and resources to spare experimented with it. But today, due to our tireless effort (see Punch newspaper 3rd March 2003) and the efforts of other devoted professionals, fish farming is now known every where as a profitable field of investment. Banks sponsor fish farm operations. Big time investors go into fish feed production, fingerlings production, broodstock and table fish for consumers. Our efforts was once acknowledged by the National Association of Fisheries Students (NAFIS) in their letter of acknowledgment sent to our Executive Director, 2003. In our new head office situated at 180 East/ West Road, Rumudara junction, Port Harcourt, Rivers state, FADO now sells fish farm equipment and machines, inputs, such as fingerlings and feed at subsidized rate. This firm also undertakes farm design and construction, feasibility study, E I Assessment of agricultural establishments e.t.c FADO constructs fish farms in different terrains and soil conditions. With concrete, clay, fibre glass, wood and tarpaulin, as well as glass. At FADO, we handle Super intensive compact indoor systems, WRS, flow through systems and the conventional fish farm designs. We also arrange for fish trawlers procurement and use. Training of EDH and Able seamen. The NGO, FISHCAREPLUS believes that proper fish exploitation must be backed up by deep knowledge of information about all spongebob games ethics and environmental stewardship. We work towards helping the Nigerian Fish producer meet the world MSC standard both in capture and culture fisheries. It would be a great achievement in all fish products from Nigeria are accepted worldwide. WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU:
